My dad has been a big influence in teaching me to work hard. He has had a lot of success with racing in his life and I grew up watching his hard work translate into that success.
I like Proverbs 13:4, “The slacker craves, yet has nothing, but the diligent is fully satisfied,” because it is straightforward. It tells you that anybody can want something and dream of it, but unless they put I the work and really try, they are probably not going to get it. When I read this verse, I am reminded that if I want satisfaction I need to be thorough in what I’m doing. Whether I succeed at it or not, if I put everything I have into it and work as hard as I can to get it done, then I know I am giving 100%.
I try to work hard at everything I do. My experiences have taught me that it is better to take the time to do things right and in a way that pleases God. Everything you do and value takes some amount of work: faith, marriage, friendships, work, etc. The harder you work at them, the more you will get in return.
With racing, I work the hardest in practice and training, just going out there and putting in my time. And when I practice I try to have intensity and drive that is above what I need so that when I compete it’s easier and I have more confidence. And I hope that others will see that what I do on and off the track reflects my relationship with God and they will be inspired to follow.

Juan Pierre,
LA Dodgers

- Outfielder, Los Angeles Dodgers
- World Series champion (2003 Florida Marlins)
- Has the 2nd most stolen bases out of any active player
- On July 29, 2008, Pierre stole his hundreth base with the Dodgers, becoming only one of four players in MLB history to steal at least a hundred bases with three different teams.
When I go up to the plate I just thank God for giving me a chance to have this at-bat, to go out here and play whether it's good or bad. I might strike out at-bat or whatever, but I like giving Him the praise and glory beforehand ‘cause He's there when you strike out as well as when you hit a home run.

Back in Puerto Rico, I got to meet some jockeys. That’s when I got the idea I could ride for a living. I grew up around horses but never at the racetrack. I believe God has blessed me with a talent and enabled me to meet all the great people I work with.
