David Tyree: Wide Receiver
New York Giants

david tyree

  • Wide receiver, New York Giants
  • Made a spectacular helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII that led to the Giant’s victory over New England

(Taking about Super Bowl XLII) It felt like it was destiny. That’s kind of how I felt going into it. I was never moved. My faith was never rocked. I knew God would do what He said He was going to do.

(Earlier in the season) I had a broken wrist and I was out. But trust me, I was receiving the Word and I was definitely not turning away the Word of the Lord. I just trusted God and we held on to the Word of God by faith. It was not a pretty year for me as a receiver.

Obviously that catch was the Ephesians 3:20 catch, You can do exceedingly and abundantly above all that you could ever ask or imagine.

I stand in awe of God.  You have so many emotions throughout a game like that and an experience like that. But there was nothing but awe. I’m grateful to know a living God. He speaks. He walks. He talks. He’s walking with me. He’s dealing with me. He’s moving in my life intimately to the point where I don’t believe anybody can deny it.

Ashley Bauer: Miss Nebraska

Ashley Bauer

I don't think I ever dreamed that I could be Miss Nebraska. I was a tomboy on the farm who played with my sisters, who never wore a dress, who watched sports with my dad, opposed to watching a Miss America Pageant.

Once I began competing, it was a process of me being really excited. At first I was just competing to compete, but then we realized what it was about and what the job entailed if you were Miss Nebraska.

That was what I wanted to do; I wanted to travel the state. I wanted to speak to children and I wanted to feel like I made a difference.

I hope that some day down the line I'll meet someone who will tell me that I inspired them and made an impact on their life

David Reutimann: NASCAR Driver

David Reutimann

  • Finished 22nd in Nextel Cup/Sprint Cup 2008
  • Finished 2nd in 2007, and 7th in 2008 in Bucsh/Nationwide Series

When I was 19-20 years old, Cup owners didn’t want a rookie because they are prone to tear stuff up from being too aggressive, so then I get older, and the next thing I knew, Jeff Gordon comes along and he’s 18 and he does so well and then everybody wants a guy who is really young. At that point it seemed like we got jumped over. But we kept plugging away and I got my opportunity a little bit later than the hiring trend has been, but all in all, I figure God had a plan and this is just part of it.”

Believe me, I struggle.  I fall. I stumble. I’m the furthest thing from an ideal Christian you’ll ever see, I think. I let things creep in. I get mad. Sometimes I say things I shouldn’t and it’s not a good feeling. But the good feeling is knowing that I can always go to God in prayer and confess and say, ‘I know I’m doing wrong. Help me because I don’t know how to fix it.’

It’s definitely a double-edged sword.  I want to express my faith and it has given me the opportunity to speak to people who come up and say, ‘I like the cross on your car.’ It gives them the chance to share their story with me and me to share my story with them when I normally wouldn’t get to do that. On the other side of the deal, you have a huge responsibility to go out there and act right.

That’s something I’ve had a hard time dealing with because sometimes you are aggressive and you’re trying real hard and sometimes things happen on the race track that you don’t mean to happen, but people see that and say, ‘He just knocked him out of the way and he’s got a cross on his car — who does he think he is?’ It’s kind of a tough deal. And I’m not really sure how to deal with that, but I don’t feel comfortable not having it on there. I feel like its part of me.
